9-Day Follow Mode Challenge

Are you up for a fun challenge? We're kick-starting a 9-day challenge for followers as a creative way to develop daily habits that will apply on the dance floor. 

Ready, Set, Turn your follow mode on!

Day 1: Cheat on your job with Salsa

Operating on hustle mode is the new normal. For one day, we're giving you permission to turn your hustle mode off and go Salsa dancing. Salsa dancing is the ultimate guilty-pleasure after a long day of work. The dance floor is also the best place to activate your follow mode!

Day 2: Go with the flow and let your day unfold

For 24 hours, ditch your to-do-list or planner. If you feel like doing nothing, then do nothing. If you're in the mood to go on an impromptu adventure around your city, then go! Be flexible and let your day unfold.

If you pass this challenge and surrender control for 24 hours, then apply the same go-with-the-flow attitude on the dance floor. Just follow the steps the leader plans out for you.

Day 3: Receive gifts, compliments and help offered

Receiving is a priceless gift back to the giver. The best way to practice being receptive is to say yes to small acts of kindness. In partner dancing, receptivity is an important quality for a follower to have. Throughout the dance, the leader gives the follower signals to respond to. 

Day 4: Enjoy the passenger side of a ride and hold your peace

Whether it's shotgun or the back-seat, the passenger experience beats driving for today's challenge. No worrying about directions, pedestrians or traffic. Sit back, relax and enjoy the ride.

As a follower, you'll be a passenger too because the leader drives the dance. Bear in mind that getting lost or taking the wrong turn are part of the journey. So if it happens, let it be and hold your peace. Your driver will figure out the way. 

Day 5: Defer a problem to someone else

Hooray! You've made it more than half-way through the challenge. Today, we challenge you to defer a problem to someone else instead of solving it on your own. We know you take pride in being independent but asking for help doesn't undermine your competence or independence at all. So ask away and you'll feel lighter by the end of the day!

Day 6: Listen without hijacking the conversation

We live in a noisy world with a lot of chatter. We talk over one another because we crave to be heard. So today, we're challenging you to be the listener in all the conversations that you have. No interrupting the speaker or hijacking the conversation with your own story. Just listen and respond as necessary. 

Likewise, partner dancing is a conversation where the leader speaks and the follower listens. So practicing your communication skills will serve you well on the dance floor.

Day 7: Relax and feel your body

If your mind is on overdrive 24/7, you'll love this challenge to get out of your head and into the present moment. Start with slow breathing to calm your mind. Then, tap into your five senses and feel yourself in your body. 

Day 8: Do less

For minimalists, "less is more" and we agree wholeheartedly. The art of following is about being not doing. So do less today and observe how you feel by the end of the day.

Day 9: Be the "I-don't-know-it-all" person

Learning is a lifelong process. Sometimes we reach a level of success and feel that we know it all. Today, we challenge you to be open to learning a new perspective, method or idea that you can apply to your life. Every day is filled with a lesson if we open ourselves to it.
